Poggio delle Civette: is a traditional family run Tuscan Farm.

It was founded in the middle of the last century and is mentioned in many historical documents. It is located in the heart of the Chianti area, equidistant from the cities of Pisa, Florence and Siena. An area over which from Etruscan times Trade and Pilgrim routes were established and eventually formed the so called " Via Francigena" or Pilgrims way.
The nearby towns of San Gimignano , Volterra and Certaldo grew and developed along these routes because of their importance in the production of Silk, Saffron, Alabaster, Terracotta and Glass.

The farm is located in the medieval village of Gorgogna. During the war, owing to its strategic position,it was occupied by the Germans and then liberated by the Americans who then settled there and it was used as an area command.

Currently 7 Hectares of Vineyards have been planted, positioned on the best sites of the estate to benefit from the soil types and aspect.
Newly available grape variety clones and rootstocks have been selected to maximize potential quality. Vineyard vine densities / Hectare combined with specific trellising are designed for low yields of high quality grapes.

Based on the varieties planted throughout the Poggio delle Civette Estate, our focus is on our two" flagship " wines whose individual characters follow the main variety in each wine blend. The three varieties are Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and the new Sangiovese. In each vintage a careful selection of grapes from our 3 vineyard sites, followed by specific winemaking techniques ensures the full potential of the harvest and also result in wines which hav outstanding personality. These wines of limited quantity are selected for the Poggio delle Civette varietal wines.
